What Are Antibiotics Doing To Your Child?

What Are Antibiotics Doing To Your Child?

It saddens me to have to write this newsletter, but I have heard too many circumstances where Nurse Practitioners and Doctors with the best of intentions, will often prescribe Antibiotics to a child when a parent, usually a mother, calls in and says, "My child is congested and may have a fever, can I bring them in?"  And the Doctor's Office says, "We don't have room to see your child today, but let me call in an Antibiotic to the pharmacy and we'll try to get them in within the next couple of days."  And so the concerned mother will go fill the prescription with little to no understanding of if their child really has a bacterial infection requiring Antibiotics, or simply they have a poor diet, eat entirely too much sugar and are congested because of poor immunity and an over consumption of cheese and dairy.
What has inspired me to write this newsletter was a Practice Member came to my office when her child seemed to have a fever and was congested.  I did an evaluation and his body indicated a viral infection and a condition known as an Ileo-Cecal Valve.  I treated the IC Valve and the virus reflex, and told the mother to let the virus run its course and he would be fine. She thanked me and left the office.  On her child's next office visit, she informed me that her husband was not comfortable with what I had said, asked her to "take him to a real doctor." and when she did, the "real" doctor told her he has a virus, and she would just have to let it run its course.  And then the next part is what really sponsored this newsletter.  The Doctor went on to say, "We should give him an Antibiotic to help prevent any 'Co-infections' while the virus runs its course."  What kind of propaganda is that?  Are we now so concerned about our children's poor immunity that we need to prescribe Antibiotics to prevent a thing called "Co-Infections?"  Where did this term "Co-Infections" come from?  Evidently, "Co-Infections" (a made up term) are what results when your body is struggling to fight off one infection, and another infection develops.  The theory is based on the notion that since the Immune System can only do one thing at a time; it will not be strong enough to fight off the other opportunistic bacteria, thus resulting in other bacterial infections.  The theory sounds serious, but this is absolutely ridiculous.  Your Immune System has the ability to ward off thousands of infections.  And all at the same time.  Unless, of course, the Immune System is weakened and suppressed.  But what would do that to a normal functioning Immune System?  Antibiotics and sugar.  Antibiotics and sugar are the two most common and prevalent causes of a suppressed Immune System in the country.
Appreciate that every time, I mean EVERY TIME a person consumes Antibiotics, their Immune System becomes compromised and weakened.  This is serious.  So serious, I will repeat the sentence again.  Every Time a person consumes Antibiotics, their Immune System becomes compromised.  Along with the compromised Immune System, the person also will develop a Digestive Yeast/Candidia Imbalance which will continue to grow at an alarming rate every time the person eats sugar, whether it is pure, unadulterated sugar, or processed and refined sugar.  Add cheese and dairy to the mix, along with vinegar or other fermented products (such as alcohol in its various forms, which should only be consumed by adults) and you have a recipe for excess mucous that will congest and fill the Large Intestine, along with the Lungs and Respiratory System.  This leads to Brain fog, Asthma, Upper Respiratory Infections, Ear Infections, Allergies and sugar addictionsHow many parents have children who experience all of these conditions?  And then think again about how many times your child has been placed on Antibiotics?  If any of this has you thinking, and hopefully concerned, you should be concerned!  But don't fret, because I have solutions for you.  But you need to come to my office to get these solutions.  And if you think for some reason you can't make the commitment to help change your child's health, due to finances, inconvenience, or the fact that your child now will not eat unless it is a cheese covered, sugar-ladened, processed food stuff, and you don't have the control to get your child to change, you better think again.  Let me share this important fact.  Your child's health and well-being will never get better, as long as their Immune System keeps getting weakened by Antibiotics and sugar.  Again, your child's health and well-being will NEVER get better, as long as their Immune System keeps getting weakened by Antibiotics and sugar.  Especially if you don't get the solutions for this and the other resulting issues that manifest as a natural outcome.  And by getting the solutions, you will have to implement change to your child's life.  They will have to allow you to be in control.  Imagine that, being the parent and being in control of your child's life.  Dictating their choices and giving them the right foods to eat, and not letting their little tantrums dictate that you buy them crap to eat.  That's the role of being a parent.  And when your child throws that tantrum, you need to definitely be the parent.  Put them in time out, and don't let them out until they understand that you are the parent, care about their long-term health and wellness, and not just satisfying them for the next five minutes of their life.  Suffering through the tantrums and being firm until they learn who's in charge and who makes the rules is necessary.  Showing tough love.  That's the role of a parent.

What This Means To You
If your child has a history of Antibiotic intake, along with regular consumption of processed and refined food stuff, you have a serious situation to deal withIf your child is already experiencing allergies, lowered Immune function and chronic on again/off again infections, you have a very serious problem.  Driving to your child's Pediatrician several times a year to get the next dosage of Antibiotics will not solve your child's health problems.  It will only make their long-term health an issue, while suppressing their Immune System.  And no parent wants that for their child.  Please take the time to consider this.
What You Should Consider
If your child has a history of Antibiotic intake without a proper follow-up plan to re-establish normal balance within their Digestive System, your child has a serious health concern.  What your child's health picture will become is a series of sicknesses that begin with possible ear infections, sinus infections, Upper Respiratory Infections, and develop into Asthma, Chronic Sinus Infections, Digestive Problems and Allergies, to eventually lead to conditions of Heart Disease, Adult-Onset Diabetes, High Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure and Obesity, along with a number of other health conditions, too many to list here. Is this the future health you desire for your child?  How about yourself?  How many of the conditions in the previous sentences do you currently suffer from?  Is this the kind of health you desire?  If not, read the following offer.

Antibiotics Linked To Asthma, Allergies In Babies

Doc Rick says, "Please read the following article and learn what Antibiotics do for your child even before they are given a chance to develop naturally."
Antibiotics Linked To Asthma, Allergies In Babies
For years, M.D.'s have been warned not to indiscriminately give antibiotics to patients, especially children.  Many refuse to heed the warnings and the result has been the creation of "super-bacteria" which are resistant to antibiotics, and a deterioration of the human Immune System.  Now, a study conducted at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit adds more bad news: Children who receive Antibiotics within the first six months of life increase their risk of developing by age seven allergies to pets, ragweed, grass and dust-mites, as well as asthma.
For the study, researchers followed 448 children from birth to seven years.  The children were evenly divided by gender.  By age seven, children given at least one antibiotic in the first six months were 1.5 times more likely to develop allergies, and 2.5 times more likely to develop asthma than those who did not receive antibiotics.  The problem is a serious one, since nearly half of all children receive antibiotics before they reach their seventh birthday.
The increasing use of antibiotics in children from 1977 to the early 1990's lead to what federal health officials called a public health crisis in antibiotic resistance.  A national campaign commissioned by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has sought to promote a more judicious approach for prescribing antibiotics for children.

For many parents, especially mothers, it is very difficult to understand what causes their baby to cry when the baby can't accurately communicate a reason.  Typically a new mother will bring their child to the doctor in an effort to resolve the situation, and far too often Antibiotics are prescribed for a suspected infection, especially if the child has a fever.  Appreciate that ALL childhood fevers are due to a simple blood calcium deficiency.  When a baby, who is growing rapidly and requires lots of extra calcium obtained from mother's breast milk, doesn't have enough circulating blood calcium (because the calcium levels fall below healthy levels due to rapid growth), it is natural for the body to develop a fever.   Most mothers don't know this.  And I'm finding that most doctors don't either.  And far too common, the doctor will prescribe an Antibiotic for a suspected bacterial infection.  And many times this is done without confirming a bacterial infection.  Unfortunately, the doctor never offers to the mother the vitally needed Pro-biotic remedy to go along with the Antibiotic therapy.  This results in a Systemic Yeast/Candidia imbalance which creates a craving for sugar in the child.  Feeding the child any of the refined, processed carbohydrate foods along with the "required" milk and other dairy products, and you've now created the basis for Allergies and Asthma.  Since the dairy and sugar products cause the Yeast/Candidia to reproduce more of themselves while at the same time releasing mucous into the system, this will lead to Upper Respiratory stress and excess mucous production in the Lungs and Sinuses leading to Sinusitis, Asthma, Bronchitis, Pneumonia, and Allergies. The mucous now will begin to trap different viruses and bacteria within the Respiratory System causing infections and the need for more Antibiotics.  Since the parents don't know any better, they go back to the doctor for those Antibiotics never understanding why their child has these repeat infections in the first place.
In an effort to get you off the merry-go-round of infection, to the doctor for Antibiotics, then feeding the child milk, cheese and refined carbohydrates (such as cereal, juice and bread), leading to increased mucous, trapping more bacteria, causing more infection and another trip to the doctor, I'd like to take the time to educate you.  Because this is such a public health crisis, I feel it is important to inform as many people as possible about what they can do to help their children and themselves.  If done properly, it could save the parents thousands of dollars (a year’s tuition to college) in health care costs and aggravation while the child is growing up.  That alone should be worth it.
What This Means To You
If you are a parent, new or old, you will want to consider how many times has your child has been placed on Antibiotics.  If your child has repeated Respiratory System problems, gets colds or the flu, has developed allergies and/or has asthma, your child has a Systemic Yeast/Candidia ImbalanceIf your child is a sugar junky, eating predominantly sweets, breads, cereals and juices, with a history of Antibiotic intake at any time in their life, they have this underlying imbalance.  If you are tired of listening to your child sniffle, snort, or cough all the time, your child is producing too much mucous and has this imbalance.  If you notice your child needing a nap in the afternoon, can't sit still or doesn't seem to be able to concentrate too well, chances are they have this imbalance.  You should have your child checked.  For more information on this condition, go to www.spineboy.com and click on Member Topics and then Newsletter Library, and then scroll through all the previous issues and read the article entitled Sugar and Your Immune System.

Day of Reckoning

The human body is remarkably resilient. Your body can withstand a great deal of abuse. It bounces back to fight off many infections, repair strains and sprains, and heal broken bones.

Your body manages it all, keeping you healthy and on track. And then one day it doesn't. What goes wrong?
Chiropractic and a Healthy Lifestyle
A person's lifestyle is a critical factor in one's overall health and well-being. Increasingly, lifestyle is being recognized as a chief factor in the development of diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
A balanced diet and regular, vigorous exercise are cornerstones of a healthy lifestyle. Chiropractic care is an additional important component. Regular chiropractic care optimizes your body's functioning. Your nervous system works at peak efficiency. You're better able to make good use of the food you're eating and the exercises you're doing.
In order to obtain maximum benefit from your healthy lifestyles, it's necessary to have a nervous system that is working properly. Chiropractic care helps make sure your nervous system is doing what it's designed to do. The result is optimal health and well-being.
The human body is remarkably resilient. Your body can withstand a great deal of abuse. It bounces back to fight off many infections, repair strains and sprains, and heal broken bones. You may drive hundreds of miles in a day, fly across multiple time zones, and travel to other countries and other continents. Your body manages it all, keeping you healthy and on track. And then one day it doesn't.

What goes wrong? You might say, "Why did this [high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, herniated spinal disc] happen to me? I eat right. I exercise. I get enough sleep. Why me?"

The immediate response would be "Really? Do you really?" Are you actually engaging in healthy lifestyles that are right for you? Or are you "paying lip service" to these behaviors, going through the motions and not paying attention to what is really needed and necessary?

In the mid-1980s the author of a best-selling book on running suddenly died of a heart attack after a daily run. His death was national news and remains a cautionary tale of the need for a well-rounded exercise program. Running every day does not provide total fitness. Neither does lifting weights every day. Neither does daily yoga nor daily Pilates classes. Healthful exercise programs encompass a range of activities. Total health requires total fitness.1

Healthy eating calls for the same balanced approach. Too much of anything will usually lead to problems down the road. Excess carbohydrates cause problems with serum glucose and exhaust supplies of insulin, ultimately resulting in diabetes and overweight/obesity. Excess meat or excess dairy will likely result in high blood cholesterol levels, possibly leading to arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke.

In addition to 30 minutes per day of vigorous exercise (which can be satisfied, in part, by 30 minutes of daily walking), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends five daily servings of fresh fruit and vegetables.2,3 It is remarkable how few people actually do these things. The result is that the prevalence of overweight/obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure continue to rise.

It's best not to have to play catch-up. The day of reckoning may never arrive if we begin, right here and right now, to take consistent, daily, healthy actions on our own behalf.

Suffer from Neck Pain?

Exercises for the Neck
Neck pain is often caused by weak muscles in the front and tight, overactive muscles in the back of the neck. Doing daily strengthening and stretching exercises can be helpful in preventing neck pain. Try the following exercises:
Lie flat on your back. Tuck your chin to chest and raise your head no more than an inch off the floor or bed. Hold this position until your muscles are tired (they may shake). Do this exercise three times, once or twice per day.
In a standing or sitting position, with your neck erect and tall, keep your chin level and jut your head forward. Then, drop your chin to your neck. Place your hands on the back of your head to gently encourage a stretch of the muscles at the back of the neck. Hold this position for several seconds. Do this exercise three to five times, as much as once an hour, every day.
Looking straight ahead, tilt your head to one shoulder. With the same-side hand, gently pull your head toward your shoulder. Hold the stretch for several seconds. Repeat on the opposite side. Do this exercise three to five times on each side, as often as once an hour, every day.
Do you suffer from neck pain? If you do, you’re not alone. Nearly 75 percent of American adults will suffer from neck pain at some point in their lives. And, looking at our anatomy, it’s no wonder so many of us do. Though having your head perched on top of your spine gives you a great view of your environment, the set-up is rather like propping a bowling ball atop a tower of blocks. The price? Our necks are prone to injury of the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. But by paying attention to our posture, doing regular stretching and strengthening exercises, and visiting our chiropractors, we can help keep our necks pain-free.

Causes of Neck Pain
Neck pain ranges from mild (annoying and distracting) to severe (incapacitating). Poor posture during normal, everyday activities such as watching TV, using a computer, reading a book, or talking on the phone can easily trigger minor neck pain. TV watching can be particularly bad for the neck if you’re lying on a couch, with your head propped at an awkward angle for a prolonged period of time. Holding the phone between the jaw and shoulder (rather than in your hand), reading at a desk or table with your head hung over a book, or working with a computer monitor below eye level can also be particularly stressful for the neck. By resting and making efforts not to repeat the offending stresses on the neck, minor neck pain usually disappears on its own within a day or so.
Neck pain that won’t go away or keeps coming back can signal a more serious underlying problem. Subluxations or joint restrictions; injuries such as whiplash; diseases like osteoarthritis, meningitis and tumors; congenital malformation; and degeneration (such as that in arthritis) require more than rest. A trained healthcare professional such as a doctor of chiropractic (DC) can help. He or she can determine whether the cause of your neck pain is minor and easily treatable or more serious and requiring more intensive, extended treatment. Then he or she may recommend chiropractic adjustment, massage, natural anti-inflammatory supplements, and/or strengthening and stretching exercises. In some cases, the DC will refer you to a specialist.

Prevention is Key
How can you avoid the need for treatment in the first place? The first step is to take note of your everyday posture. If your job requires a lot of phone use, consider wearing a headset. Do you slouch when you watch TV? Lie on the couch? Choose to sit upright, in a posture-supporting chair. When studying or reading, avoid putting the book or magazine on a flat surface. Instead, consider using a book prop. And, if you notice your computer monitor is below eye level, elevate it by placing it on top of a shelf or tower.

If you experience neck pain that doesn’t abate within 24 hours, seek the advice of a trained healthcare specialist for the appropriate diagnosis and treatment. And remember, because chiropractors specialize in the neuromusculoskeletal system, they are some of the most well-trained healthcare professionals to consult about neck pain.
